Tool assessment and qualification is a crucial responsibility of the avionics supplier, and Aldec has streamlined the process by providing the required data package when using DO-254/CTS for design assurance level (DAL) A and B FPGAs.
Avionics certification authorities consider DO-254/CTS a verification tool, and therefore it must go through stringent tool assessment and qualification as defined in section 11.4 of RTCA/DO-254. “Tool qualification can be a huge undertaking if done by the avionics supplier, especially if done with limited or no help from the tool vendor,” said Louie De Luna, DO-254 Program Manager. “As a tool vendor, we believe that in order to provide high-quality support to our customers, we have to ensure that we test our tool by means of a structured tool qualification process defined in RTCA/DO-254 such that it will not fail to detect any design errors.”
